Thanks @Gershon,
Was hoping that someone with a MS500 or even a MMS had some fresh experience.

I think that Autonomic has made great SW historically, but am a bit confused by the non-flash update.

I think those that have the mb100 are hoping McIntosh doesn’t abandon a component that was sold just up to 3 years ago. I haven’t used the new firmware from autonomic obviously, but I’d imagine there’s a rush to get it out so that customers don’t have to find a flash workaround, and then fine tune it later. Autonomic just switched ownership very recently, so I’d also assume that getting things back to normal isn’t easy, and am impressed at their speed so far.

I’m also impressed that they’re taking care of customers on their mms-5a platform, which can be had for very little on eBay, compared the the route McIntosh so far has taken.

Good afternoon everyone, just wanted to give a quick update, in order to keep this going. I decided to call McIntosh today, to see if there were any updates on the MB100 software. While being transferred to support, the on-hold message went something like this: "McIntosh products are designed in terms of decades. You won't find any robots here."

And I know this statement is mostly true, but odd that I heard that brief snippet while waiting to discuss my 3 year old MB100, which is on the verge of becoming obsolete without intervention, and is currently a security concern on the network.

Anyways, I was transferred to Chuck. First, I told Chuck that the MMS-5A got the flash update a few months time ago, and was hoping McIntosh would update the MB100. Chuck told me the MB100 is not based on the Autonomic MMS-5A, which I found odd that he would say that. He said it's based of a 3 series unit which hasn't gotten the flash update either. I don't know what he's talking about, so I mention it here.

Chuck also said: "they're looking into it". I asked for an eta, and he said there isn't one.

I may have mentioned this before, here or elsewhere, but this doesn't sit well with me. My expectations are just higher. Maybe the writing is on the wall for my decades of loyalty to McIntosh, and I just need to deal with it and move on to a company/brand that aligns more with my expectations. It's fine, it's just an expensive hobby at the end of the day, and I need to let it go.

Cheers everyone

I've been told McIntosh will be making an announcement next week regarding the state of the MB100. One way or another, we'll have a definitive answer. Hoping that McIntosh does the right thing and boosts their digital reputation a little.

Well, last week came and went. I didn't see anything about the state of the MB100, despite talking to McIntosh directly.

In the meantime, I see Autonomic has pushed another huge software upgrade to their discontinued MMS-5A.

My MB100 won’t boot anymore. Is this a coincidence or something to do with the flash update?

It’s a coincidence. There hasn’t been a flash update to the mb100 yet, as of 5/28/21. Unfortunately.

So it’s supposed to work without flash but mine has some other issues?

It will work with limited functionality without the flash web interface, although there are workarounds that aren’t friendly or secure. Anyways, I’d start a new thread if you’re having issues.

I got tired of waiting and traded in my MB100 on a preowned MS500 from Audio Classics. The web browser interface is very similar to the iPhone app. I always transferred music from my PC to the MB100 over the home network. When I tried it with the MS500 by typing in the IP address in a file explorer window it would fail to connect or open the web browser. Finally I booted the PC in safe mode and tried it. It gave me a message saying the SMB1 protocol was disabled. An internet search indicated SMB1 has been disabled in Windows 10 due to security issues. If you run "optionalfeatures" it will open a windows options menu where you can turn on SMB1. I just turned on SMB1-client (requires reboot) and was then able to connect to the MS500 in a file explorer window. Then just drag on drop into the MS500. It's pretty fast. When completed, I turned the SMB1 protocol back off.
