Thanks again Grasshopper for sharing - you’re in rare territory with the DAC’s you’ve been able to hear. The Kassandra is definitely a “beast from the east”!

Me too I’ll be happy to report what I hear. What pushed me over the edge was a guy I contacted who sold his MSB reference and moved to the Mola Mola and felt it was an upgrade. I’ll soon find out!

choosing dacs
This has been a very informative thread that helped me choose an "affordable"
dac and decide against some that I was considering. Many of them are way out of what I am able to afford. I cannot buy and sell until find something that agrees with my conditions. I am not in an area where I can borrow equipment to try it. I took a chance on a used Lampi Pacific grabbed from US Audiomart that turned out to be wonderful. There may be better ones but that last 5-10% improvement in sound quality will have to pass me by. I am sure some of the ones eliminated on this thread are very good and still sould be considered by audiophiles. Thanks very much for this thread. |

Jason, at this stage top DAC makers/dealers should probably be lending you trial units, it’s their chance to stand out in what is probably one of the most exciting audio gear shootouts currently on the web 👍
In a likely lower league I’d like to share the fact that I enjoy my new DAC, the Merason DAC1, Swiss made, the chip is the modest BB 1794A, it’s limited to PCM 192, no DSD (1% of my listening), no MQA (I stream mostly via Qobuz), no remote, BUT it’s transparent, natural sounding and very musical. About $5K Looking forward to read your impressions on the Mola-Mola (although we already know from a few members including Bart that it's an excellent tier 1 DAC).

Yes, patience... and a bit of money also... This is certainly one of the most thrilling audio threads indeed!

UPDATE---- with several shipping delays, the Mola Mola is finally on the way. If it arrives this week, I can give it a listen. If it is next week, I'll need to wait another week to report back-
