More pieces of the Island legacy- there are a number of individual album reviews posted, from Tull, to Traffic, to Fairport Convention. Also a retrospective look at Nick Drake. Contributions from the legendary Joe Boyd and Cally Callomon (who worked at Island in the later years and now manages Nick Drake's legacy).
I visited the Austin Record Show yesterday- if you are in town, or nearby, it is worth the trip. (They were still loading in mid-afternoon yesterday, lot's and lot's of used vinyl LPs, tons of old 45's and everything from French copies of Cajun and country being offered by a delightful English couple living in France to one dealer who was displaying only old Beatles records, including some uber collectible copies). Also thrown into the mix: a review of the earliest pressings (on the old Zappa "Straight Records" label) of Alice Cooper's Love it to Death. If you haven't heard this record in 40 years or so, it's worth a listen. Then, you'll want to find one of these early copies- they are incredibly vivid and punchy. More Island "pink label/rim" era stuff to come, along with some other articles that will soon be published. A good holiday weekend to all. Bill Hart |

Has anyone heard an early pressing of THE BAND: Music from Big Pink or the S/T Brown LP. Just curious how good they are. I have had bad luck finding a nice used copy in two of my local record stores, two shops in Montreal, and also came up dry in NYC.

People rave about the Mo-Fi re-do of Big Pink but I am underwhelmed. The brown album pressing is easy- find an early lime green Capitol, with 'RL' in the deadwax. Finding an unmolested copy may be the challenge.

Thanks Whart. I will keep an eye out for the Lime Green first press of the Brown LP. Not an easy find.
