Serious listening = in dark or very dimmed room with eyes closed. Glass of wine or other harder-type drink in hand.

I am sooo OCD. Eyes closed, no talking, No tapping along. Well, at least when I am in serious listening mode. I can't even listen to most of my favorite bands if they are playing the song list out of order. I can't do "shuffle", "random" or any of that unless it is at very low background music levels.

Man, I need counseling.

When I'm really listening I generally close my eyes. It eliminates distractions and the music seems to come into better focus. Down side is if I'm listening to something like Chris Botti sometimes I got from track 3 to track 12 without ever knowing how I got there.

Ivan, when you don't see, you hear better. BY FAR !
I'm not blind Thanks God, but I have a big myopie ( I don't know the english word ). Without my lenses or glasses, I don't see much.
My friends and my wife say I have "dog ears".....

One of the things I like about listening in the dark is my Maggies REALLY disappear, bith visually and audibly. Nothing but soundstage! But I leave my meters on.

Keeping my eyes closed lets me hear deeper into the music and really appreciate the sound that my gear makes. I find this especially useful when I'm evaluating new gear and cables.
