New clock abandons Rb ?

Makes sense. Rubidium elements are very noisy - it is after all a plasma stream! So Rb clocks for audio have a crystal oscillator long term slaved to the Rb element anyway.
Since long term accuracy isn’t that important for audio, a super low noise crystal oscillator alone will do the trick.

We use Rubidium in the frequency standard of the radar I work on. Like any product, the reference quality is subjective the quality of manufacture. We went from a nicer old unit to a cheaper new unit made the company who bought the old company out. Cheaper units will drift from center frequency. I have two Esoteric clocks in my systems and none have been noisy or had any issues, which I would expect from a high quality company like Esoteric. I look forward to checking out the new product line.

Yes, but it is also worth keeping in mind the magnitude of overdramatization that is inherent to all things audio.
