Last spin of the evening:
Mendelssohn Symphony No.4 in A OP.90(Italian)
Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor K.550
Oslo Philharmonic
Odd Gruner-Hegge Conducting
Rather nice recording and very enjoyable. Hard to find and collectible, I'm lucky to have a pristine copy with no noise!
RCA Camden Living Stereo CAS508 (1959)
Regards,
Jim

Disc 1 of 8

After many recommendations by Bart and Julian for the individual volumes, I took the plunge and bought this after Channel Classical released the 8 volumes as a box set. I was not familiar with this music, but right off the bat the first few bars of K 379 reveal Mozart's charm, wit and elegance. The recorded sound is quite excellent with good balance between the fortepiano and the violin.
Disc 4 of 8 tonight. This disc includes more mature works such as the K526, the K304 and the K302. Just charming, engaging music well-played by top-notch musicians.

Default Corelli: Violin Sonatas, Op. 5 (complete)

Wrapping things up today with...

Corelli: Violin Sonatas, Op. 5 (complete)
Pavlo Beznosiuk (violin)
The Avison Ensemble

Exquisite violin chamber music accompanied by cello, archlute and organ/harpsichord. Very nicely done and recorded.

And I'm starting off the day with some Corelli from that same marvelous bunch . . .

Listening to Arcangelo Corelli - Concerti Grossi, Op. 6
Pavlo Beznosiuk - Violin
The Avison Ensemble

I have several recordings of this wonderful music and I think this is the one I prefer.

Excellent playing, superb Linn SACD sound.

When I was getting the cover art, i noticed that, on Amazon, every review was five stars . . . and this is pretty unusual, with some of the constant complainers who usually find something to gripe about on most everything.. This recording must be pretty good!
