I went from a 452 to 611’s, no regrets, sound great with my Sopra 2’s.

Default Moving from mcintosh mc462 to mono blocks

When I was faced with the same decision a couple of years ago, I listened to the 601’s and the 1.2’s back to back for a couple of hours and the 1.2’s were easily better, even my wife could hear the difference.

I know the new models are somewhat different but I feel the result will probably be the same. I had the 800D3’s and the 1.2’s were much better at driving those speakers and made a significant difference. I’d suggest go for the 1.25’s if you can afford it (well you know what I mean [emoji22]) and like Charles said, they will pretty much drive anything you may get in the future. The only downside is the weight of those beasts!

It sure is easy and fun to spend other people's money!

FWIW, I've read reports that the move from the 462 to the 611's yields a very significant improvement....

Default Moving from mcintosh mc462 to mono blocks

Just my opinion, but I listened to both an MC462 and a pair of MC611’s before purchasing my MC462, and to be honest, I didn’t hear a difference which is one of the reasons I purchased the MC462. The MC1.25 on the other hand is a whole different animal. If you really feel that you need to upgrade, I would skip over the MC611 and go straight to the MC1.25.

my other thought was to add a pair of subwoofers(REL carbon specials or jl audio fathoms) and keep mc462 to hear and feel the difference before upgrading amp's. seems like consensus is that upgrading to 611's will be marginal; upgrading to 1.25 amazing. and with either amps subs may still add a lot to the music. thought?

Hi,
I have recently added a pair of REL Carbon Specials. The improvement is incredible! Prior to having the RELs, I have always thought the 802D3 are up to the task of producing bass. The addition of RELs brings the whole experience to the next level (music and movies). This is by far the best upgrade I have ever purchased for my system. If you have the chance, go listen to a properly set up RELs, you will be amazed

I had the exact same experience only with a set of JL Audio f110V2 added to my 803D3. Biggest recent change in my system by far.

My plan is to also add a sub. I’m thinking a REL S510. Unfortunately I don’t have room for stereo subs so it will be a single one.

I think its where you want to wind up. If you have a small room, Pete's advice is sound. If you have a larger room with plans to go big with stereo subs and higher sound levels, while the 611 will be totally adequate, the 1.25's are the clear choice. I think Stahle is in the former category with a smaller room, but you can't go wrong with a 1.25KW. I agree with the addition of subs. They enhance any high end system. You can obtain great sound from a smaller room.

Best

Charles

Take the express bus which skips the 611 stop.
