Default Cornwall IIs - Should I Go For It?
Hi Klipsch fans,

I am a fan of vintage speakers but I do consider myself to be a dedicated Tannoy man (or Tannerd as we are sometimes referred to). I feel that the old dual-concentric Tannoys pressurize a room in a way that newer speakers with small drivers just can't. To me there really is no replacement for displacement.

I have always been curious about Klipsch. I like high efficiency and bass and I also like the availability of inexpensive upgrades from Bob Crites. I am also a McIntosh man and many praise the synergy of Mac and Klipsch. A pair of mint Cornwall IIs have just come up locally and I am tempted.

My current system is McIntosh C504 pre, MC225 tube amp, MCD7000 and an older Linn LP12 is my primary source. My current speakers are Tannoy Cheviots (12" DC) and I do have a 15" Tannoy project ongoing.

Would I like the Cornwalls? How would the sound be best described? If I go look at them is there anything specific to look for? Are there different Cornwall IIs and is there a way to tell them apart?

Only if you like clarity and dynamics!.

Have owned all three-Cornwall, Cornwall II and Cornwall III.
Also have had modified crossovers built for Cornwall and Cornwall II.

Suggest the best bet would be to get a pair of Cornwall III's new or used. All depends on your budget, time and DIY skills. Can find Cornwall or Cornwall II's for 600.00-1200.00
depending on condition and will most likely have to put another 200.00-500.00 to get them up to speed. Save the hassle and try to find the best deal that you can for Cornwall III's.

The cost of Crites replacement crossovers and drivers for old Cornwalls adds up big time. I agree with Brian, a nice pair of used Cornwall III's are highly recommended
