Default My Old Genesis II System

Here's a few pics of my old Gen II system from the 1990's. Carl can appreciate my Krell FPB700 in the bottom of my rack. It was a great sounding system. That's a Musical Fidelity CD Player and the very expensive Ayre D-1x DVD/CD Player with its separate power supply above it.

Best

Charles

Apologize about the quality of last two pics but notice the fan. The Krell FPB was truly Class A. It ran hot. I used two Genesis II subwoofer amps in an effort to maximize my subs, one stereo amp per sub using one channel per sub.

A system I would love to call my own today! Just adore large panel speakers.

You are absolutely right. Will outperform many modern systems. Its main flaw was a slightly weak mid/upper bass, i.e., the transition between the subs and the panels was noticeable on some recordings. But I loved the system. Kept it for over ten years.

Weren't they great speakers? That was Arnie Nudell and Paul McGowan in their primes as designers. When you owned this model Genesis system you owned the best minds in the business. These were special speakers.

p.s. And mine actually looked so much better than the pics, which are pics of twenty five year old pics I recently discovered. The Gen II's were gorgeous and heavy. Each sub plus panel weighed in at about 500 lbs. Don't let the wood fool you. They were heavy and extremely powerful. The treble and mids can't be beat to this day and the bass extended to about 16 Hz.

Nice system Charles. I'll bet it was a great sounding system.
Is it a fan in front of FPB 700

Charles - I'll bet that Krell FBP 700 would have sounded great on your XVX's.

Carl, yes it is a fan. I'm telling you, you own some of the best Class A gear ever made. And you don't need a fan because your gear is well ventilated. That beast ran hot, but what an amp it was. I'll never forget when it died. As you know there's a triangle and the blue lights come on successively. Well one day the second tried but failed. The amp made several attempts, failed and shut down. That was after ten years. I sent it back to Krell and it returned completely reconditioned. Worked perfectly until I sold it.
