Default Part II, building first Mcintosh system, the speakers.

Hi,
Finally the dream of owning Mcintosh comes true.
These cannot be used as a main system due to lack of
Space in other part of the home. So I use it for BGM duty
Play pop FM stations and low playing level. Quite frankly,
I need this to be as beautiful to look at with reasonably good sound. So no fancy cables or accessories.
These what will be in this system
1. C2200 , now out for minor(I hope) repairs.
2. MC2102
3. MR87 tuner, on order.

Have these speakers in mind.

1. Used, rare, Watt Puppy 8
2. New JBL L100 Classic 75 Anniversary, love the look.
3. New Klipsch Heritage such as Heresy IV, Forte IV
4. SF Electa Amator III
5. TANNOY something that has heritage look.

I will be sure sit way off axis and out of any sweet spot though. As I said, BGM use. I want speakers to look
Old fashioned. Exception to Wilson as it was my dream speaker long ago.
As you will see in the photo attached, Mc will be far
Away making a sound from where I sit. I will not even have stereo separation.

Any idea? Is any of those unsuitable load to the MC2102?

I felt MC2102 is kinda polite, soft, little bass . It was better with 8 ohm tap though.

It could be small 5.25” drivers of Dali Zensor 1, or those 14-2 in-wall speaker cables or that old FM tuner.

When C2200 come back, I should try again with better source other than
Radio. For now that old Technics ST8080 is the only source I have that has variable outputs.

And any solution for this that does not compromise the sound too much ?

There are Voodoo , Furutech, Audioquest.
I doubt the furutech and voodoo will fit.

Fyne F500SP.
Fine (pun intended) speakers, nice looking, low price.

Thank you Ivan, unfortunately none of those are not available here, so I order Furutech from Amazon Japan.

Hi Bart, thanks.
I will look into details.
But personally, I just not very much like the way its drivers look, the diagonal line around the surround in particularly.

Toga.

Toga, I'd suggest Dahlquist DQ-10's with the updated woofers and super tweeter. There's a pair for sale for 1,350.00 out of Canada. Dahlquist's work extremely well with vintage Mac. They are the best speakers of their day. Add a pair of DQ-1W's with the Dahlquist electronic crossover and you have a system that will surpass many modern much more expensive systems. I owned this system with Mac's powering. It was better than the mighty Klipschorn of that day. I made a mistake selling this system. It took many years before I found something better. Dahlquist's have the magic. They are the first true time aligned speaker.

Best

Charles

p.s. I would suggest spending the money to go with a modern electronic crossover. The Dahlquist electronic crossover to the DQ-1W was the weakness of the system. This system in proper working order will surpass many very expensive modern speaker systems. It is possible you would like it so much you would use it for serious listening.

Thanks Charles,

I live in Thailand, and that Dahlquist is sure to be unobtainable.
I managed to get one of the two pairs of JBL L100
Classic 75. I know they are not audiophile, but I just love
How they look and surely not sound too bad. Expect delivery this Monday.

Only on AA would a MC2102 and C2200 be referred to as "vintage Mac"
