Bill-

You question is very specific to your particular system. IM(very)HO, along with some really good feedback here, give the folks at Audio Classics a jingle; describe your system and goals then ask their input. They are hands down one of the largest and most knowledgeable McIntosh dealers in the universe. Multiple channels require some zen in the art of balance,

As for my opinion (for what it is worth) on favorite Mc mono blocks:

the discontinued MC 75's;
very noticeable better than a 275 and edged over the 2301's as well. I auditioned all together with my speakers so there is some system dependent stuff to factor into this crazy algebraic equation. The contemporary 1.25's and 901's go to another level. Quite honestly however, a level too close (or further beyond) the stratosphere for me.

Enjoy the Hunt and remember the balance.

Merry Christmas to you as well!

What are your favorite Mac mono blocks and why?

Thank you for your time and have a very Merry Christmas!
MC501.....HUGE regret selling them.

You know, JWJW, I've got a good friend who would cast the same vote.

P.S. - Love your avatar. I used to watch BEC playing in Cheap Trick, back in the early-80s and he was, by far, the most interesting thing in their videos. Smokin' those butts and keeping the time on those skins.

We've always stuck with the solid state amps, but I have to admit that the MC2301 is one nice looking monoblock! Perhaps we should call our regional Mac dealer and see if they have one hooked up. That way, we can actually hear what the fuss about Mac tube amps is all about.
Be careful. You may not come back from this session. The 2301s are magnificent.

My wife and I hung with him at his home for a few hours, a couple years back. Shared some INCREDIBLE rock and roll stories. Super cool guy. HUGE bummer he’s retired.
