Yeah that is a bit surprising although I understand why they didn't bother. Analog multichannel outputs are very rare these days in fact I can't think of a single mainstream blu-ray player that has multichannel outs at most they only have L + R.

Really the biggest problem I have with this unit is that it is already outdated before it even came out. I really wish McIntosh would adopt a modular HDMI system much like NAD so whenever a new HDMI spec comes out you won't have to completely replace your AVP. I've never been able to justify a Mc AVP since AVRs and AVPs become outdated so quickly. If they switched to modular system I would probably replace my preamp with one.

I think it would be awesome if all the IO was modular including the preouts. I would love it if you could choose how many HDMI modules you needed or how many channels out etc.

Today I ordered both of these new products. I’m digital only for Home Theater so this suits me perfectly. Can’t wait !

Has anyone had a chance to audition this yet? I'm very curious as to how it may stack up to the MX 122.

I’m still waiting for mine.... I was told they were in mid production in early December. So I’m anxiously waiting now.

Thanks for the reply!

I spoke with my dealer yesterday and he's got one coming in soon, too. I'm not sure when it's going in, but I'm guessing I'll get a chance to hear it in his theater sometime soon.

This direction just seems to make a lot of sense for those of us that are using a dedicated two channel pre-amp in pass-through. I hope it's a wild success and that they continue to build on the format.

I'm looking forward to your impressions!

Ryan

I got an email update today that said both units were on the production list for this month. So I’m guessing it will be another few weeks for me. Good things come to those who wait I guess.
