The GAT is the only preamp that "allowed" me to sell my Shindo preamps.
True piece of art.

The short story is that I am smitten by the GAT.
I'm now swapping different amps in and out to see how they play together with my new baby. Each has its own voice, of course, and if I could only combine a bit of this one and that one and that one, etc. My current leader is the Pass XA25 due to its midrange, but I do miss the bass and slam from the Bel Cantos, etc. I've got 3 other amps to try as well...my S.O. thinks I'm nuts, but tolerates me and for that I'm glad. In any case, its clear the GAT is a keeper. I'll post more impressions as I listen more. Question for you audio nerds: The CJ pres are the only phase inverting pieces in my chain. So I swap the +/- leads at the speakers to compensate. Any reason not to swap at the amplifier instead? (Strange question, but I discovered I had swapped at the amp out of convenience; when I changed that to swap at the speaker, I could swear it sounded better). Is this just audio nervosa and an active imagination? LOL |
