Watching and Listening to . . . . My wife's favorite opera

Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata

Live from La Scala 2007 - Conducted by Lorin Maazel

A BluRay Disc available from Amazon for less than $10.00, and an excellent production of a superb live performance of a wonderful opera. A sensatational bargain for a seasoned opera fan or a newcomer who just wants to find out what this opera nonsense is is all about.

Excellent voices, incredible La Scala sets and settings.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Truly fantastic music from a genius who died so young.
Imagine what he could have composed in 30-40 years more...
I ordered this Linn SACD based on Bart's recommendation. Just outstanding and charming. The recording is superb.

Listening to . . . The Heifetz - Piatigosky Concerts
With Primrose and Guests

Mozart - Quintette (G minor), Mendelssohn - Octette (E-Flat Major)

Jascha Heifetz - Violin
Gregor Piatigorsky - Cello
William Primrose - Viola

Plus others

An RCA Stereo LP (somewhere between Living Stereo and Dynagroove) Recorded in 1964

Beautiful chamber music for strings. Heifetz was his usual virtuosic self. This sort of music often sounds "squeaky", bright and unpleasant; but here it is just smooth and lovely. Very nicely done and well recorded.

Listening to . . . another vintage LP - and an excellent one at that

Schumann - Piano Concerto in A Minor
Mendelssohn - Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Minor

Rudolf Serkin - Piano
Philadelphia Orchestra - Eugene Ormandy, Conductor

This is an absolutely beautiful recording . . . It was difficult to find a decent picture of the cover art - Mine is the small photo to the right of the Schumann thing . . the bigger cover picture is a later re-issue.

Serkin and the Philadelphia made a number of very fine recordings, and I especially like this one. Great sound, excellent stereo sound staging and imaging. Excellent sound quality. I like the music and I love this recording.

It's good indeed.
My wife and I watch it at least once a year.
