That's a great lens ! Congrats.

I bought the Sigma 30mm 1.4 but I'm not that impressed.

You should check the Nikon AFD 85mm 1.8. This is one of my favorite lens.

Thank you !

I used a 100mm Macro 1:2 when I was in University ( no digital at that time ) for portraits so yes I know that a 85 mm 1.8 should be a great lens but not so universal as a 35mm. I want to keep things simple.

Jerome'
I have the 35mm f1.8, identical to yours. It is an excellent prime lens. I'm using it on a D7000. I plan on getting the smaller D3200, and I think that body with the 35mm lens will be an excellent travel camera for my outdoor adventures!

Sorry, a precision : only the pics of the gear and Geminox, the white and grey cat, were taken in darkness. Others were in daylight of course.

Hi Tom,

It seems to be very popular.
I will use it also for everyday street and inside photography.

I saw the portrait of your lovely daughter and I thought about about the 85mm.

I had a phase where I bought the whole range of focal from 10mm to 300mm. I used to carry them all. Now I've settled down and I mostly use the 16-85mm in daylight (90% of the time) and the 30mm in the nighttime.

I also like to pick a lens and use it for a day, that can be quite challenging when it's the 10-24mm

The Nikkor 35mm is a great prime lens. You cannot get much sharper, distortion free images than this. I also love the shallow depth of field that can be achieved.
