Default Here is one of my hobbies

Cool! A brand new hobby forum!

Well, here is one of my hobbies that I have neglected for the past 7 years as other business and family commitments completely squeezed the hobbies out of my life... I did miss flying the radio control models a lot and just last week I decided that I MUST get back into the hobby that I enjoyed as it will be "therapeutic"!

Of course not touching a remote control "radio" for the past 7 years I was VERY rusty.... Flying models, especially helicopter models is challenging and is a skill that must be practiced over and over again as all these models want to do is to crash into the ground in a blink of an eye!

I had to start all the way down the ladder of model complexity and will have to practice and claw my way back to the more advanced maneuvers but for now it is simply getting my rusty hands to keep the micro model helicopter from crashing... So I practiced with this "micro" heli model today and this was actually a nerve-racking "Maiden Flight".... Well, the model survived! Of course there was a "near disaster" as I botched up a landing attempt and the heli slid across the glass table and nearly hit the tail rotor on the table edge... Phew!

I decided to capture the "maiden flight" with my new GoPro camera as I was certain it would have ended in a fiery crash and would have been great footage for laughs from the rest of the family! It didn't turn out that way!

I am also interested in "SCALE" helicopters. I may look into building something scale... Of course the flying "style" is very different for scale helis, one tries to fly them similar to what a real one would do in the air. Many of the modern RC heli pilots are into crazy stunts instead.

Yeah, as someone else said ... once you go gas, you should go turbine. Conventional two strokes produce too much vibration for a heli. Turbines are much smoother ... and they sound AWESOME!!!
