Smile Sweet!

Pete.... The whole setup looks really great, but I have to say that the two older units featured prominently above your beautiful MC501s really caught my eye. It's really nice to see that you've managed to mix something older in with what I would call the "newer" Mac stuff. Great job!

Thank you gentlemen...
for the kind words.

Bill....I assume the two "older" units you're referring to are the McIntosh MR78 tuner, and the C40 preamp. I bought the C40 brand new in 1997, and so it is now on the cusp of becoming "vintage". It is a very fine preamp, it has served me very well over the years and remains perfect for my setup in terms of its features.

The MR78 tuner needs no introduction with Mc lovers...I bought this unit in early 1993, so it's approaching 30 years with me now. It is an outstanding tuner, that it is a rather iconic McIntosh model is not surprising. I did update the end caps with a more recent version so it better matches the C40's cosmetics. I replaced the glass front when I first bought it, and again just a few years ago. I've upgraded the panel illumination in both the MR78 and C40 with LED's.

I'm very pleased with the system's current look, and performance. But as we all know, this is a never ending journey, so stay tuned...

Pete.... Yep, those are the ones. Considering that we still have stuff dating back to the 70s, I hesitated to employ the term "vintage," but the fact is that they look very nice in your system, regardless of age.

hobie1dog....thank you sir! I am indeed very fortunate. It has been a work in progress for many years. While I have designed much of what you see in terms of how it is set up, the overall success of my audio adventures has been due in no small part to being part of this forum. Many aspects of what is possible to achieve today I wouldn't even be aware of if not for this community. A special thanks to Ivan aka MasterLu, whose has been an enormous help in acquiring many critical components.

Whether we realize it or not, each of us is at a huge advantage in this hobby simply by way of our memberships here.
