Default Antique audio...anyone else?

I was wondering if any other members might also be collectors of gramophones or phonographs like me. I've been collecting these wonderful old pieces for over 20 years now and really enjoy listening to the records. (i have well over 1000 titles on disc and cylinder).

Here's a few pics of my collection...

This is a Victor VI from about 1904...my pride and joy.

This is Edison Triumph cylinder phonograph from around 1910

This is a Edison Disc phonograph from 1920. Plays 1/4 inch thick flat records.

Here is a Victor Credenza from 1925. It has a six foot exponential folded horn inside. Specifically designed to play the first electrical recordings.

Hope you enjoy seeing these classics from the past.
Cheers,
David

Default Unexpected Pleasantries

Well I sure wasn't expecting gorgeous furniture when I opened your thread! Puts the wooden enclosures of 60's & 70's receivers to shame. Simply wonderful--thanks for sharing!

Wow, very nice collection, and your home looks beautiful as well. I'm not a collector myself, but am an admirer. We have a small museum in my area (Spark Museum of Electrical Invention, http://www.sparkmuseum.org/) with a nice collection of antique radios and electrical equipment. I'm a supporting member and like to go browse every once in a while.

Beautiful pieces of art !! Thanks for sharing. I stopped at an estate sale this morning and impulsively came out with box of records. Unfortunately the player was already marked sold. Did I stumble onto something good or just something cool?

Hey Rick U....that depends. Some older recordings are more valuable than others.
The more popular ones were pressed in to the millions of copies, like most of Caruso's records.
You find those everywhere. The earlier the recording, the more collectable they are.

I'll go ahead and add a thanks to everyone else for looking.
Glad you enjoyed seeing these wonderful old pieces.
They actually sound pretty good even though the audio technology is very primitive compared to today's stuff.

One very big advantage they have is if the power goes out...I still have music in the house!
