Anyone here into Salvador Dalí? He is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite artists. Like most of his admirers, I have a special place for his early surrealistic period, but also love some of the commissioned works he did, such as "The Divine Comedy", the "Alice In Wonderland" series, the "Aliyah" suite, the Mythology suite, etc.

I always dreamed of acquiring one of his signed pieces. Finally, after many years of dreaming, we recently purchased a signed lithograph of his "Bullfighter" from 1980, one of the very last pieces he signed.

Congratulations on fulfilling the dream Esteban. Where will you hang it?

I had the good fortune to attend the Dali Exhibiton at the High Museum in Atlanta in 2010 following tear down of our CEDIA booth. The exhibit featured post 1943 Dali works and may be the only reason I don't remember Atlanta as an awful place for a CEDIA Show.

Thanks very much, Bill! It's proudly displayed as the center-piece in the living room. I would have loved to attend the Atlanta exhibition. Fortunately, we do have the Dali Museum relatively close to home here, in St. Petersburg, which as you know is one of the largest and most important ones in the world. We were there last year, but it coincided with their re-location to a bigger, much-improved (and truly "Dali-esque" looking!) building. So by the time we got there half the pieces were being moved from one location to another, and we missed them. We are planning to go back sometime soon, hopefully before the end of the month, to celebrate the occasion.

Can't say I am a big fan but really enjoyed all his work around London when I was there. Those long legged elephants at the Eye are cool.

Congratulations, its amazing to finally realize a life long dream. We should all be so lucky. I would love to own a Picasso one day.

Congrats on acquiring a piece of Dali's work. While his later works aren't as highly regarded as his early pieces, I think they are just as satisfying. He seemed to steer away from obvious surrealist themes and worked more in abstraction. Like a fine piece of audio equipment, there's nothing like hanging a beautiful piece of artwork up.

Thank you, Doug. That is a fantastic photo. Still wrapping my head around it. Just incredible! He truly was a walking piece of art. Thanks for sharing it.

We knew going in that his late 70's and early 80's period was not one of his better regarded ones, yet I find myself in total agreement with your description, specially when it comes to something like "The Bullfighter". It's interesting to see how he glorifies the bull itself (by encrusting it with jewels) instead of the bullfighter. I understand that the original painting actually has real jewels in it. There's tons of other hidden gems in the piece, as is typical of him. Plus it's really quite colorful and dynamic. Some truly great pieces came from that period.

Not to mention, these pieces are still relatively affordable, unlike works from the late 30's until the late 60's, which seem to start at $8K+. Some of them way more (the ones we loved were in the "way more" category, as you imagine!). And we are, after all, talking merely about a lithograph. Not to mention, there are so many fakes out there, I honestly don't feel comfortable spending that kind of figure when there really is no way to tell that a certain piece is 100% genuine.

You seem to be well-versed in Dali. If you don't mind me asking, what is your opinion of his Aliyah suite from 1968? My wife loves "The Angels Of The Rebirth" in particular, and I prefer "I Have Set Before Thee...". But we also love some of the pieces from his Mythology suite, and those are etchings instead of lithographs, and look truly breathtaking... Prices are a little steep in the case of the latter suite, but perhaps they are the better "investment" (we don't really buy them for that reason, but nobody likes to buy a depreciating asset, either...). Would love to hear your thoughts on these or any other pieces you find worthwhile.

Congrats, but I have to say I prefer the pretty face peeking out to the right-side of the frame!
