Tried 803D's again
Last night I was playing around wiht the system and decided to hook up my B&W 803d's which I hadn't listened to in a while. They are very pretty, like works of art and they are put together very well. They sounded better than I remembered and they look much better than my EB1i's. Then I switched over to the EB1i's. Wow, with just a few notes I could tell the EB1i's were a much more musical speaker to my ear. It reaffirmed my purchase of them. So much more microdynamics and everything seemed to be in the recording with the EB1i's. I just wish the EB1i's were prettier instead of just a big box. I am glad I tried it again as it made me love the EB1i's even more.

I fight the beauty vs sound aspect all the time. I think the Nautilus is one of the most beautiful speakers ever made. But the 803D's especially in gloss black are sharp.

Well I've had my EB1's about 6 weeks now and I'm still in awe of the sound To my ear very similar to IB1's but better at lower volumes.
As to aesthetics, I personally would have preferred the black "studio" finish to the cherry I have; just me I guess. Oh, btw I have lots of custom (and home) built cherry furniture in the house; I just don't see audio gear as needing to be furniture eye pleasing. |
