How many JBL owners?

Tom.......I have set in front of the 18" JBL subwoofer in the above photo. It is in Pete's living room, and powered by a McIntosh MC501 amplifier. Let me tell you, bass is not just heard, it is felt. That sub enclosure is as big as a refrigerator, and gorgeous. We watched some clips from the DVD sub movie U-571. Those depth charges were awesome. I practically needed a seat belt.

You don't have to feel lonesome around here. There's plenty of JBL lovers here, even some that haven't come out of the closet. JBL and McIntosh go way, way back.

Good. That sub does appear to be massive........how much bigger is it than a 1500 Array?

I've only got a pair of L100's...
But I am looking for a clean pair of L26's. Anyone got a pair they'd like to get rid of?

I'll just chime in here....although large, the sub isn't as large as a refrigerator. It may seem that way when one first looks at it, as it is larger than many (most) subwoofer enclosures. The cabinet dimensions are 24 13/16"H x 38 5/16"W x 24 1/4"D. It utilizes the 2245H 18" low frequency driver. The cabinet's internal volume is 8 cubic feet.

Add another owner to the list.

My "computer" speakers are a pair of 4311Bs. I did a total rebuild of the internal wiring, crossovers, and replaced the L Pads.

They look just a touch impressive sitting beside my monitors (had to replace the CRTs with flat panel LCDs, the magnets inside the speakers put out a surprisingly large field that will play hob with a CRT display).

I would certainly expect that the 4311B's would look very impressive....I don't know of many folks who can say thay are using these as PC speakers!!

Love those K2 S9800SE's....what a beauty. I see you are also an L220 owner...I've owned mine since 1982 and love them. What kind of sound does the S9800 have comared to the 220?

Hello Pete, the name here is Heath. I believe we crossed paths before in a discussion thread about the L220's a few years back over on the Lansing H sight. Pmakes? I think your username was. My L220's are up in my exercise room now connected to some older equipment but still in regular use.

The K2 S9800SE's do everything better, and so they should being 30+ years newer technology and being the flag ship model at the time they were released. The SE model is an upgrade to the original K2S9800, most of the improvements are to the crossover and internal wiring.

The bass is super tight and each note is articulated in a way the LE14's in the 220's and the newer JBL models just cant match. The beryllium diaphragm horns are really amazing, brightly lit but super smooth and very revealing. Stereo imaging bests the already great L220 by a noticeable margin. Instruments like piano and electronic keyboards sound really lifelike. Percussion instruments exhibit dynamics that have to be heard to be believed. Forgive me for sounding over the top but I've only had them for three months and still in awe.

I still love my L220's and will never part with them, they can still hold their own with most of the other models in that price range even today. The K29800SE's make just about every other speaker I've heard recently sound well like speakers.
