Aerosmith,
Thanks for all your personal experiences w/ the DSI200. Sounds like it would be a perfect integrated for me for all types of music, movies and TV in our lively living/dining room that flows into the kitchen.

Any opinion on this versus the (cheaper) Ayre Ax-7e?

Thanks.

I have the DSi200 running Sonus Cremona Auditor Ms in my main system. I've had it about 10 months now and love it. It has a very smooth, tube-like midrange, balanced treble, articulate bass, and plenty of power. I have not compared to the Ayre integrated, but before buying the ARC I auditioned the Ayre K-5xe and V-5xe separates for a couple of weeks in my system. While I liked them a lot, I found they had just a touch of upper midrange glare, and sibilants were a little over-emphasized. The Ayre equipment has a great reputation and gets wonderful reviews so it may well have simply been a question of synergy with my cabling and sources, but the DSi200 was a clear winner for me. As for the Ayre integrated, keep in mind it does not have nearly as much power as the DSi200 (60 versus 200 watts). One other consideration, the DSi200 has no tape or pre-out, and no headphone output, so if you use a headphone amp in the same system you'll need source components with extra outputs.

My DSI200 has just passed 300 hours so we are just midways of the breaking in period :-). I run it with a couple of Usher Dancer Mini One. I did audition 10 different integrated machines before making my decision. Everyting from Moon and Bladelius to Musical Fidelity and Audio Analouge. But when the ARC gave voice to my speakers I was sold within 5 seconds. It was so organic and gave the acoustic recordings such nice timbre and precense. And this with only 300 hours...
