For years (30 some-odd) I've owned everything Honda makes, cars, lawnmower, tiller, snowblower. I even sold Accura's after retiring. I'm very sorry to hear you are unhappy with Acura.

I've owned 3 Honda's (cars, but also lawnmowers, etc) and 2 Acura's. Never a complaint, except the MDX brakes were a problem. However, the guy across the taxiway from me owns a VW and swears by them. I also know another VW owner who gets amazing mileage from his Passat. What I'd be interested in would be the VW diesels. They are supposed to be very reliable.
If you want a commuter car, though, you really can't beat a Honda. They are the Singer Sewing machines of the auto world. Relatively simple, do the job, keep going and going and going, and hold their value. You cannot say that about most other brands.

Agree that the Passatt may offer better better driver dynamics, but the Accord will be more even across the frequency spectrum. No- seriously though. I am on my fourth or fifth Accord in a row. There is just no going wrong with Honda. I swear by Nokian tires for all-seasons, and I am set. Maintenance costs are very reasonable as well.

Thanks guys!
I went to test drive the passat and the throttle response was delayed, touchy brakes.. BUT IMO the ride is still OK. The interior/exterior is bland.. The CC was more upscale I'll test drive the new accord next time. Thanks for the responses

Bump!!
we are replacing the '12 Murano by Thursday! Dealer was able to locate the color combination we want.. BOY, it was a close call. ACURA was offering the TSX with TECH pkge way under invoice! but the rear seats are really cramped!!
