Time for Dynavector XV-1 to XV-1s
After 11 years of owning 2 dynavector XV-1's I have decided to trade in and get an XV-1s. The XV-1t is just too expensive.
The Dynavector XV-1 series was and still is a special cartidge that puts the music first. It is one of the greatest cartridges ever made. I have owned dynavector cartridges for about 18 years now. First up was when I upgraded from my Linn Troika to Linn Arkiv in 1991. Boy, what a huge mistake. The Lyra OEM'd Linn Arkiv was the 2nd worst cartridge I had ever bought. thin, bright shallow and unmusical - CD like with less a redeaming sound than CD. Benz Ruby2 was the worst. I then bought a dynavector XX1, then a Te-kaitora and then in 2000 a XV-1. some pictures below Not only is the XV-1 a sublime sounding cartridge, it is also durable. I have had approx 3500+ hours out of each of my XV-1's. That is well and truely better than any other cartridge I have owned. in HiFi critic April-June 2011 M Colloms tries the XV-1s and the Koetsu Urushi vermilion XV-1s scores 175, Urushi 160 'This cartridge is pure class'

Shane,
Congrats on the upgrade to the Dynavector XV-1S. I have a good friend who has an XV-1S in his Linn, and it's an absolutely fantastic sounding cartridge, one that I have contemplated buying myself. No question it is one of the best sounding cartridges I've ever heard. Speaking of Koetsu Urushi Vermilions, I just got mine back from the Koetsu Japan today from it's rebuild. Just running it in now; it will need 30-50 hours is my guess. Nice to see it stacks up very favorably to the XV-1S. I thought if I ever got an XV-1S, I'd put it on the Michell and move the Urushi over to the P5.

Thank Stephen
There is not a lot off difference between xv-1 & xv-1s. Slighty tighter bass a a little more transparency and extension. Let us know how the koetsu rebuild sounds like |

Shane,
Congratulations on the XV-1s. You took some time. I assume you are preparing for maybe a new Phono. The latest generation of the XV1s is supposed to have a better stylus profile than the 1st generation, which is what I had. You did well to wait. I have the Pass 25 running. Waiting a bit to get some better impressions. But it is the typical Pass house sound of the XA series amps but with amazing bass. Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado |

the XV-1s 's ability to track securely the last grooves is incredible....

Interesting, dynavector are back ordered for several weeks.
Dynavector are building more cartridges now than at any stage in their history So still waiting, but the xv-1 is still sounding surprisingly good. Tracking is clearly not as good as my lrya kleos, but might fine considering it has done over 3500 hours |

Xv-1s was little hifi sounding in comparison. That may have been more my system tonal balance than anything Btw, I am sure the xp-25 will be great. I certainly liked my xono when I had it. |

Does this Dynavector club have room for one more member.
