Also, a 1500x1500 image is only 9 times the size of a 500x500 image. Given that JPEG compression is about 10:1 with little perceptible loss in image quality ( JPEG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), and that a raw 32bit 500x500 image is just under 1 megabyte, we are talking about 100KB for a 500x500 jpeg. The 1500x1500 is only 800k larger. If you have happen to have 2000 albums on your Sooloos system, all with 1500x1500 covers instead of 500x500, we are talking about 1.5GB of extra space. That's like 3 or 4 lossless albums. As for why you'd want more than 500x500, well, thats a matter of grooming. Someday, there may be an update to the system where the better cover can be used in its entirety. I personally would want to have the best cover I could, especially since it's size is meaningless compared to the size of the audio data. |

I have a mixture of 500x500, 600x600 (most of them) and beyond 1000x1000 whenever its possible to have. If I have my way, the minimum I would like to have is the 1000x1000 ones .... with 1500x1500 if possible. Vanity at the fullest! Cheers~!

To begin, your screen does not display 32bit images native. And, the quality level of a JPEG depends on the compression rate. If you are saving JPEG files at the highest quality setting, the compression rate can be as little as 3:1, depending on the complexity of the picture. i.e. a shot of scenery will compress down a lot less than one with a lot of flat, spot color. Not being sure how the Sooloos caches image data for screen display and knowing that the Sooloos uses a relatively primitive graphics card, I'd rather not have my machine trying to redraw 18 large album covers every time I go from page to page. I'll ask the guys at Sooloos how this all works for clarification. Lastly, as the image presented on the screen is only about a quarter of the total screen resolution, I still think 1500 x 1500 scans are a pretty big waste of time. It certainly is for the almost 8,000 CD's in my collection (with another 3-4000 to be added this summer, I'm in the process of acquiring a friends collection) So, if you've got the time to scan in 8-12 thousand CD covers, I'm really jealous of the amount of free time you have on your hands... That's about months working 8 hours a day. I can think of a million things I'd rather do. |

I have to agree with Jeff here. The majority of images in my library were 500x500. I have tried a few larger images and to me it's definitely not worth the effort to swap out thousands of images.
