Years ago I had a 5 channel THX Parasound amplifier (I forget the model number). I found it to be an excellent product, especially for the price. Very solid and powerful, and never an issue with it. I also then purchased a smaller 2 channel THX amplifier (again I forget the model number but it was the same series) to run more rear speakers. I really loved them and only sold them as I was able to afford my dream McIntosh amplifier. At that price point I would definitely recommend Parasound!

John Curl is also a guy that worked with MOFI and I think Lucas on THX too. He did a lot of way out there amp designs, mastering etc.

This really doesn't count, but I use a few Zbreeze fans in Florida, they work very well.

I have a JC-3 phono stage and love it! VERY well built and excellent sound quality.

I enjoyed my Parasound system for 10 years before switching to MCintosh. My only complain was the heat on their mono blocks.

I'm still considering the JC 2 preamp strongly. It is well-reviewed and given excellent marks. On the preamp, one review suggested avoiding bright/lean-sounding speakers and amps with it. |

What preamp are you using, if I may ask?

Going to audition some Parasound this week (picking up an A23 and whatever matching pre they have to go with it. They also have a pair of JC-1's, but that's too rich for my budget right now.
I'd rather an integrated, but thought I'd give the brand a try. Any further thoughts about the brand or units within the brand?

If you're considering buying a JC2, drop me a PM since I'm going to be selling mine. For stereo listening, I'm going to be going to an all Linn Klimax system, so I'm going to be selling my JC1 monoblocks (modded by Empirical Audio) and the JC 2BP in the near future. BTW, the modded monoblocks are even better than the stock...I auditioned both in my system at the same time. oh, and the heat from the monoblocks really is not an issue, provided you don't have them in an enclosed space. I recently moved the amps into my listening room (one of the reasons I'm going to the Linn amps - WAF) and I haven't noticed heat being an issue at all. I listened to my stereo for a good 2-3 hours yesterday and the temp in the room never went above 70 degrees. Compare that to when they were in a rack in a closet under stairs with the rest of my electronics and it did get hot in there - 90 degrees easy when watching TV/movies; but in addition to the JC1 & JC2 being used, the A51 and SSP-800 were on as as well as the PS Audio PPP. No doubt about it, the Parasound gear is very good equipment and a great value. |

I'm continually tempted to replace my JC1s with some bigger monsters..but each time I've been temped, I sit back and enjoy the music and the thought passes soon enough. .. and also agree on the heat, on std. bias the heat is maybe only slightly more than any typical SS class AB amp. on High bias it's another matter as they do get HOT, I run std. bias most of the year, now and then during the winter I pop them on high-bias for awhile. |
