Great - please let me know your thoughts when the BDP2 is set up and any differences you hear. I noticed you list Bryston speakers - what model do you have?

MEMO: To All Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: Bryston BDP-2 Digital Player

July 2014

The Bryston won every A/B test with the expensive Audio Aero Player using the same (also expensive) DAC!

Hidden away in Ste Sauveur, I am here with Jim from Tenor Audio listening off centre stage — and not missing three-dimensional imagery.

A newly installed (connected) Bryston BDP-2 Digital player on the shelf; Audio Aero player preamp and WLM crossovers also visible.

Nice stuff here . . . .

Hi

No rush unless you want to use the MM interface. If you are using MPOD or MPAD or GNOME etc. there is no rush.

James or anyone else. Given the choice, would you choose coax or toslink to connect my Oppo 105D to the BDA-2?

Coax is what I've always read. Sounds a bit better to my ears too.

COAX - Toslink has 2 more conversions of the digital signal than COAX. Only favorable thing about Optical is it reduces any grounding issue if you are getting hum.

Thanks James and Grit! I'll stick with coax then. Noise and/or hum is not an issue with this system.

This is a very tempting DAC. Would love to hear one in my new "high-res monitor & digital source" system centered around the Stax SR-009 headphones. Need something that has a great USB implementation and can equal and/or exceed the sonic performance of my fully Modwright'd Denon 3910. I'm thinking that DACs leaning towards dead neutrality and highest transparency are the way to go with the Stax.

Quick update. BDA-2 is now connected to my Oppo 105D via a WW Silver Electra digital coax. Connection out from the BDA-2 to my MX121 is via WW Silver Electra XLR. I'm continuing to be amazed at how well redbook cd's sound via this combo and can't wait until I add a capable music server. I'm really only considering two options at this time. Bryston BDP-2 and Emile's Silenzio
