Gary Burton & Friends - Departure
Concord Records [CD]
If you like the aural colors painted by the vibraphone then Gary Burton does not disappoint. For some this recording might come up short compared the older Gary Burton recordings, but I find it very listenable.

All great albums above...for all Gary Burton fans, this is another great recording with Astor Piazzolla live to boot(!);

Miles Davis - Nefertiti
Mobile Fidelity SACD

One of my favourite albums (the second great quintet!).
Worth the upgrade from the CD I had; and the CD wasn't that bad.

Miles Davis - Sorcerer
MoFi SACD

From the same forces.
Brilliant!
Maybe even better sound than Nefertiti, that was recorded a bit later in '67.

To go into the night, one of our cherished albums:

Ella and Louis
Analogue mono SACD

Louis Armstrong (trumpet, vocals)
Ella Fitzgerald (vocals)
Buddy Rich (drums)
Ray Brown (bass)
Herb Ellis (guitar)
Oscar Peterson (piano)

Often posted here.
Even if you prefer 'modern jazz', this is something that just enchants every time you listen to it.

I like pretty much all of his CDs. Post Chick Corea pairings, probably the two with Makoto Ozone are my favorites.

Nothing complicated, but as you say -- 'very listenable' all.
