There are certainly a lot of bad CD mixes of jazz out there. Numerous ones I bought in the 90s that are just plain rubbish.

Another classic Mingus album. Recorded in '59 it sounds fresh and crystal clear. Fantastic compositions and playing.

Hank Mobley - Soul Station
I really like Mobley's sound. One of the best tenor saxes ever. Blakey is the driving force as he often is, and Kelly and Chambers do an excellent job (like in "Kind Of Blue"!). Van Gelder remastered this very well. An absolute classic.
