Meridian Special Edition Loudspeakers
The new Special Edition DSP Digital Active Loudspeakers from Meridian provide the most revealing, lifelike and powerful performance of any Meridian loudspeakers to date. Developed from expertise honed over more than 25 years of true research and continual system development, these new Special Edition loudspeakers specifically benefit from Meridian’s scientific research into how humans perceive sound, or ‘how we hear’, in particular focusing on how our brains process live sound.

Meridian’s philosophy takes understanding from neuroscience and psychoacoustics as the starting point for audio system design and places Meridian in a unique position to resolve the challenges of high performance audio playback. Guided by original research and maintaining a focus on connecting our emotions with the artist performance, Meridian’s engineers have addressed new important areas in developing these new Special Edition loudspeakers.

Building on major Meridian innovations such as Trifield, MHR encryption, MLP lossless coding, apodizing filters and EBA (Enhanced Bass Alignment), the new Special Edition loudspeakers offer the most significant performance enhancement in recent years by delivering the highest resolution sound available. Meridian’s approach to high resolution sound in the new Special Edition loudspeakers delivers more accurate time-domain response and offers significantly improved transient speed across the entire digital active system.

To achieve the highest performance possible with these Special Edition loudspeakers required many entirely new design implementations to the award-winning DSP8000, DSP7200 and DSP5200 models. All Special Edition loudspeakers feature;

- new Meridian designed short horn loaded tweeter with a Beryllium dome
- new mid-range and bass driver mechanical clamp rings
- new wideband, high resolution analogue electronics
- new DSP implementing the performance improvement of ‘EBA’ technology across the entire frequency range

Optimised to take maximum advantage of high resolution recordings, the new Special Edition loudspeakers are a new range of products that redefine high performance loudspeaker systems and set a new performance benchmark for the digital active loudspeaker, the product category that Meridian introduced to the world 25 years ago.
We can confirm the recommended retail pricing (RRP) for the new Special Edition loudspeaker models are;

- DSP5200 SE ----------- GBP 10,000
- DSP5200HC/VC SE --- GBP 5,250
- DSP7200 SE ----------- GBP 24,000
- DSP7200HC/VC SE --- GBP 12,500
- DSP8000 SE ----------- GBP 43,000
- DSP8000VC SE -------- GBP 22,000

Meridian is running Special Edition Loudspeaker preview events in the UK (London, Oxford, Bristol and Edinburgh) and the US (Seattle) during February to continue to drive awareness and interest following the unveiling of these new products at CES, Las Vegas in January. These events offer customers a first chance to experience the Special Edition Loudspeakers before they go on public sale in March.

In March a roadshow of Special Edition Loudspeaker launch and sales events will roll-out in the UK, USA and across international markets. Meridian will publicise the schedule of events in advance on the Meridian website and social media channels, and develop customer communication and lead generation activities to help drive customers to experience the Special Edition systems at participating Partner locations.

Special Edition Upgrade Path

With the introduction of the Special Edition Loudspeakers, we will also provide a future upgrade path for many owners of Meridian DSP5200, DSP7200 and DSP8000 models. The Special Edition Upgrade will comprise a complete set of the new Special Edition DSP digital active electronics and amplifiers plus the new Special Edition tweeters and will be applicable to all SpeakerLink versions of DSP5200, DSP7200 and DSP8000. Please note that the mid-range and bass driver mechanical clamp rings are not offered as part of the Special Edition Upgrade Path.

We will also be able to offer the upgrade for many, but not all, non-SpeakerLink versions of DSP5200 and DSP8000. Contact your Premium Partner with the serial number of your current loudspeakers to check if your loudspeakers can be upgraded. Full details on the Special Edition Upgrade Path will be provided before the full Special Edition Loudspeaker launch in March.

Confirmed recommended retail pricing (RRP) for the Special Edition Upgrades are;

- DSP5200 SE Upgrade ----------- GBP 4,750
- DSP5200HC/VC SE Upgrade --- GBP 2,500
- DSP7200 SE Upgrade ----------- GBP 6,500
- DSP7200HC SE Upgrade -------- GBP 3,500
- DSP8000 SE Upgrade ----------- GBP 11,000
- DSP8000VC SE Upgrade -------- GBP 6,000

Special Edition Upgrades will be available for purchase 4 to 6 months after the launch of the Special Edition Loudspeakers. Meridian will announce the exact date of availability for these upgrades in due course.

Best Regards,

Paul

This is good news although I wish they would redesign the entire series. They need a bit of a refresh.

First reports are in on DSP5200SE and DSP7200SE on Meridian Unplugged. The demonstration consisted of an A/B of DSP5200/SE and a single DSP7200SE pair. This weekend there will also be an A/B of DSP7200/SE as well as a single DSP8000SE pair in a home-cinema demonstration room.

But it seems like M have done some tangible improvements from the first impressions..

I completely agree with you with regard to 5200 A-B demonstration.

The 5200SE is the greatest Meridian step forward in product enhancement I have ever heard. The release of EBA (improved version) in 5200 for the first time, plus all new electronics is a game changer. Old and new versions of 5200 are chalk and cheese.

Please note this demonstrated product is still described as beta status so there could be even more improvements to come.

We will have to wait 6 months for the upgrade to be available but this gives me some time to accrue funds for this inevitable investment on my currently unused pair.

The 7200SE pair were as smooth as silk and I can only describe the reproduction as "effortless definition" in all respects.

I await the comments of visitors to Bristol event on the promised 7200 comparison.

It's tough to break into the carefully selected component cannon of Audiophiles. A "recipe" for enjoying your music .

Meridian makes everything a one stop solution, and the do it very well. Some say they are the best!

I don't know anyone who thinks M is "the best"

A speaker to source M system is more like a different take on the B&O profile....nice and comfortable but not nearly state of the art.....

It doesn't matter if you know or don't know someone who thinks that ;-) but IMHO comparing M to B&O is quite funny, you have got humor!

At the moment I have not heard a better streaming platform. My dealer have both the vivaldi stack and msb stack. I think that is quite the accomplishment.

How good the SE incarnation of DSP speakers are? No idea but will hopefully soon find out.
