So, no problem using the CG unit as a SG?
If I understand your question, Glenn, you're referring to making a "SG connection" e.g. connecting pair of unused RCA input or output signal jacks, or say, a USB port from a DAC, network bridge, etc. to a CG hub.

If that's your question, then yes, that's fine. The guidance is: if you're going to start with a single Altaira for your entire system and it's "relevant" connections, use a CG hub. For example, if your preamp has a dedicated ground post, use that. If not, you can use two unused RCA or XLR jacks (one for each channel) to ground your preamp. The best connection is from a dedicated chassis ground post, but if that's not available, making connections using "signal interface" connections will work, as well. If you have a terminal on a CG Altaira to spare, and have a source component e.g. a DAC, streamer or network bridge, etc. you can also connect from that component to your CG hub as well. For example, back when I had my Lampi Baltic-3 DAC, I used a Shunyata ground cable with a RCA plug on it to connect the unused S/PDIF terminal on the Lampi to my Altaira hub.

Since getting my P1, I now connect it to the S/PDIF terminal on my Lumin, you can see it at the left in the photo here:

If you decide to "segment" your system from the "get-go", the guidance is to use 2 or more SG hubs.

If you start out with a CG hub for your system overall, and then decide to "segment" your system, you can still use your CG hub, and then add an SG hub.

Hope that helps, Glenn. If you have other questions, check with Ivan.
I'm also happy to share my set-up, as well, if that helps, cheers.
