Does the Osiris sound good by itself without the Isis? |

I'm not using the Isis and won't be. I bet it is a super player but I need only a dac and I won't pay so much money for only a USB input... Yes, the Osiris sounds very good along my MDA 1000. The only shortcoming I found at the time when it comes to its sound, is that it does not reproduce voices as beautifully as the 2301's or the Snappers. Both tube amps are a bit better when it comes to voices. But still it reproduces beautiful voices. Just does not get to the last degrees of almost perfection that the Snappers and the 2301's reach in this domain. Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado

Worth trying different cable combinations with the OSIRIS. I prefer the standard Rega mains cable over the more expensive version which ships with the unit. Also prefer Mogami RCA to the cable Rega supply RCA - but I am using Mogami speaker cable. Regards Richard |

Ok, here is my small review of the Osiris integrated amplifier.
I won't be too long because many pro reviewers already made great reviews of it. I have a little advantage : I have listened to it on 3 different speakers. At the Paris HiFi show, it sounded stunning along with the new RS10 speakers. Sensual, voluptuous, yet detailed and punchy : an other flavor of my kind of sound : the one I already have in my main system. With my PMC EB1i speakers, it demonstrated, both with digital and vinyls, an incredible resolution. It is a magnifying glass, for the better or the worse. I was surprised because the C1000 and the 2301 are champions of the resolution but the Osiris goes further : you hear with more insight. The ambiances of the rooms / studio are better rendered. This is also served by an incredible imaging ability. The " relief " as we say in french, is just incredible. I really, like never before, hear in 3D. But what is the most obvious improvement over my tube amps, is the bass handling. What a punch ! It kicks the 501's and all the over SS amps I heard in my system when it comes to bass slam and weight. And of course, it is much better in this domain than my tube amps. The mids are beautiful. The treble goes very high without acidity if the recording is good. It does not go very well with poor recordings. Overall, the attacks are as fast and strong as my 2301. But, BUT : the voices don't reach the musicality on my speakers that I get with the 2301 or the Manley Snappers and the treble is not as juicy and tasty. Ok, those differences are rather small and I wou.d bet taht some would not hearthem at all, but for my taste and my system, they mean a lot. As a result, the Osiris won't come in my main listening room. BUT, I am on the waiting list for the new Rega RS10 speakers in my secondary room. So, the Osiris might be the perfect amp for them, which are much warmer than my PMC I think. (The PMC are extremely neutral, and the Osiris is too. Maybe this was too much of a good thing. I also did not like to hear sharp recordings sounding as sharp. The Mcs and the Manley are more forgiving) and it could also not be. I may end up prefering the Manley Snappers with a good preamp with the Rega flagship speakers. So I will order the RS10 speakers and will try again the Osiris on them, comparing it with my other amps. Or, if my dealer makes me a great price on the RS10 and the Osiris, I may go straight for them. I tried the Osiris on my Tannoy Autograph Mini and it sounded gorgeous, wonderfully musical and made them sound like really BIG speakers with an incredible bass ! So : is the Osiris one of the best integrated amplifier available ? Yes, maybe. Especially if you like good bass. It has an incredible "PRAT" and immediacy which reminded me of the SET 845 Verdier monoblocks. But you'd better have warm sounding speakers because this beast does not let anything in the shadow. Or, if you like clear and detailed sound, if you're a fan of Wilson speakers or BW, then the Osiris could be the best integrated amp ever made. It falls very short of my beloved C1000P with either Manley Snappers or 2301's, according to my tastes, on my speakers. So it is a bargain, especially if you can get your hands on a used unit and can accept only one xlr imput, and a minimalist design with no balance and so on ( but it still has a passthru...). It is built like a tank and will last your life and the life of a few generations after you. It runs completely cold, even at high volumes. And I bet that it could drive effortlessly any speaker on the market. And just a side note : do not use its "audiophile" provided PC. It sounds really bad ! Pics to come. Thanks for the review of your time with the Rega. I think what you are describing confirms that there are no perfect amps. I haven't heard the piece of gear that cannot be bettered in one area or another by something else. It sure is fun looking for and auditioning gear in search of that "perfect" piece Jim |

Still, your new amps may not be very far from "perfect" !
