Thanks, Jim. I didn't know that.

I had a chuckle about calling these the "basic Reference cable" when the darned things cost almost $8K (less the trade in of my Ultra cables).

The Reference Phono cables are calibrated to your specific cartridge.

But he's right, they wanted all my component info... I think really they just need to know the amp (tube or ss) but not sure how that works...

Certainly, I will ask, Mark. Unfortunately, I won't have enough time to send to Transparent cables that could be tuned to my system.

Yes they want to know your gear so they can determine which of the two (hi or low) is best for your combination of gear. I once asked if it was based on tube or SS and they indicated not necessarily but often yes.

Transparent's naming conventions are truely shocking IMO. It's almost like they're just having a laugh. A further example is the Powerlink cable. You mention MM2x, but the top one in the 2013 pricelist is called simply "MM", without even a "Reference" in front. Are they going backwards now?

Transparents 2013 Price list probably wasn't updated when they replaced the Powerlink MM2 with the MM2x. The color of the cable for the MM2x is black and not blue as depicted in the photo. They may have even held the price for the x version. I do know that a lot of the original MM2's were sold at reduced prices.

I really have not knowledge of how they handle the phono cables. Maybe the tune them but it is possible they do exactly what they do when you get Reference cables. They ask you what your gear is an determine whether Hi or Lo Z is the better alternative. Even though the paperwork that comes int he box indicates what gear you own it is still either Hi Or Lo at this level.

Another example of confusing nomenclature. MM2x was first a technology. All of my Reference Powerlinks (RPL) are MM2x technology, all 9 of them. I originally had RPL (MM2 tech) but Transparent graciously upgraded all my cables gratis ( i purchased cables 2 months prior). Other cable lines are currently MM2 technology. The top of the heap power cable is /was(?) Powerlink MM2 (with mm2x technology)

Now, it is news to me that Transparent has decided to add a new top of heap power cable line named MM2x with BLACK coloring as Jim is aware of. Again, further confusion.

But I agree, Transparent sounds amazing
