Even though the paperwork that comes int he box indicates what gear you own it is still either Hi Or Lo at this level.
You are correct! I checked with TA and the Reference Phono is is set to either Hi or Lo Z. XL & above is tuned to the output of each cartridge.

I had a chuckle about calling these the "basic Reference cable" when the darned things cost almost $8K (less the trade in of my Ultra cables).
yeah that's what blows my mind about some prices of cables, there are 2 levels above this in the line then there is the Opus. And does anyone actually know what they are made from? I mean these guys unlike most other manufacturers are very secretive which is odd. Given the high price I naturally think silver, I just couldn't wrap my head around an all copper cable at the price of the Opus.

The top of the heap power cable is /was(?) Powerlink MM2 (with mm2x technology)

Now, it is news to me that Transparent has decided to add a new top of heap power cable line named MM2x with BLACK coloring as Jim is aware of. Again, further confusion.

But I agree, Transparent sounds amazing
Just to clarify. As I understand the top of the line Transparent power cable is the Powerlink MM2. The technology is MM2x. Here are photos of mine. I hope they attach.

Default Reference speaker cables in the house!

Got my Reference cables this morning, hooked 'em up, and had a quick listen before heading out to the salt mines.

I know that it will take a while for the cable to settle in and break in, but out of the gate, I notice:
  • More tuneful, detailed, & visceral bass that integrates better with the REL
  • Vocals now float clearly in front of the speaker in (a more or less) 3D image that has an almost physical presence
  • Sound stage moved from behind/at the speaker's front plane to out in front of the speakers
  • Vocals now sound "righter" than before
  • More detail (decay, reverb, breath in takes) than ever before
  • Harsh treble is mitigated a lot
  • Presentation of the music is more "organic"

More as I get them broken in...but they already sound like a big improvement over Ultra. Looking forward to them sounding better and better.

So, if the Reference are this big of a jump, I wonder what's the jump with the other (much more expensive) Reference flavors.

Oh, does this madness ever stop?

Congrats!! I know exactly how you feel. I added both the Ref ICs and Spkr cable. And now I can't seem to leave the house.
