Default Just wondering....

I prefer the mm input of my Manley Steelhead for my Koetsu Onyx Gold cartridge and also prefer the minimum gain setting but that doesnt give me much maximum volume. I just wondered if anyone has tried a quality Step-Up transformer with a Koetsu on the mm input. (I know the two MC inputs have their own SUT's but the mm input sounds much better to me).
Would there be any advantage doing this?

I agree with your assessment in that I also prefer the sound of the MM input of the Steelhead which avoids its internal transformers. I haven't tried a Koetsu with the Manley SH, but obviously the only advantage to using an external step-up transformer would be if it is superior to the internal transformer. Manley winds their own transformers so I would expect them to be excellent, but I still prefer the sound of the MM input even with MC cartridges.
