I get your point. But it does have the advantage of offering a convenient excuse to visit your local dear.

The closest McIntosh authorized repair center within 200 miles of me is a TV/appliance repair shop. My friend brought a McIntosh preamp there and after more than a month it was not repaired properly, but he was still charged for the repair. They have plenty of negative customer reviews online.

I'm in Houston, TX. I would have to go to Dallas or San Antonio to find a service center I would trust. My friend ended up sending his preamp to Audio Classics to get it fixed correctly (failed solder joint).

When you mentioned the repair center was a TV repair shop I kind of had knew the location was Houston. I live just north of New Orleans and the only authorized repair shop around here closed down a couple years ago. I called that Houston shop and could never get anyone on the phone.

I bought my 1502 from Magnolia. I'm told that if it ever needs service I need to just bring it to them and they'll handle the service at their own service center. Somehow I just don't have great confidence in that. Hopefully everthing will continue to work flawlessly as it has been now.
