I built my system around the MCD600. I started with the 600 and a small integrated McIntosh the MA5300. I wanted to get my stored cd's out and use them again. I upgraded a couple of times to where I am. It is a superb unit and has performed flawlessly for about three years. Of course I went McIntosh crazy as you can see. Even the wife "boss" is impressed with the sound.

As an owner of a MCD500 for quite some time, I would recommend the MCD600. The only issue I've had is the drive tray belt wearing out, but that's just what happens with belts, it's not MCD500 specific. I've used multiple newer external DACs on my 500 and honestly haven't noticed huge difference so I'm sure the MCD600 will keep you happy for a long time.
