Yes, great idea. Right now I seen a pair w/o stands going for $4,800.
Also seen a few 705 S2 for $2800. They are selling to upgrade to 805 D3’s.

If I go that route, I would need to really upgrade my bedroom front end to separate pre and amp. Right now I just have low end Pioneer receiver.

Is that Canadian, or USA Dollars? Seems a bit steep - I’ve seen HTM4S go around £500 and 805S around £1200 with Stands?

Edit here is a pair currently on the bay... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293891026896

Here is a pair just sold - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254785219680

Yes CAN $
805D3 go for $7k new here.
705 S2 $3,500
603 AE $2,500

I don’t see many 805D3 come up for resale. Guessing they are traded in for higher end D3 series speakers.

Sorry I didn’t mean D3 ...the older S series - I see you have 802N, so meant to sound similar you could try find the S 805 versions (which were derivatives of the old Signature editions)

I had the 804S and HTM4S years ago and they were very good little speakers :-)

Ah, yes, I see you mentioned ’S’ series. It may be really hard to find both the mains and matching center. But I will definitely look on the used market.

Lol ...once you’ve had rounded cabinets, it’s hard to go back to uninspiring ‘boxes’

Ps. An ARCAM AVR550 or AVR850 with B&W 805x and HTMx is a nice little package; if you have them there...AVR550 go cheap now and formidable

I tried AVR550 with a B&W 803D3 and HTM81D3 and 805D3 with Cinema 7 in ceilings.

The Arcam kept going into protection mode when driven hard. I think Arcam recommends Class G for when the speakers have 4 ohm impedance (which the 800s are even though they are rated at 8 nominal)

Hey Doggiehowser

I am not surprised there, the 803 are big speakers and I would not try running the ARCAM AVR550 at high volumes against those - 805S and HTM4S should be fine, but if running things at 80-100% volume you’d want a power amp in the mix irrespective...few AVRs have power supplies that will sustain that kind of current demand without overheating in my opinion. The AVR850 does have more juice, but also twice the price and preAmp section is identical

I'm not saying the 805s are perfect, but it is "hard" to trade up from there. Virtually all of the better speakers are substantially larger. So if you bought your 805s in part due to space/spouse constraints, it's a very short list, and nothing that promises to knock your socks off.

Much easier for an 805 owner to upgrade electronics
