Please recommend a good cordless drill

I have their 12v for basic around the house usage. It will be given to my son soon so I can get the 18v model.

Makita or Dewalt.... Be sure to get one that has a half inch chuck that way it can use all sizes of drill bits!

I have a bunch of Milwauke drills, I like all of them except the Li batteries. They die too quickly...

I have been having good luck with Ryobi tools (corded and cordless). I bought a Ryobi cordless starter kit and the drill is pretty good. I believe that 18V batteries have made the 'Cordless drills don't have torque' argument a thing of the past. Obviously a Makita or a Dewalt is likely a better tool but if you aren't planning on puttings pro-type hours on it I think that Ryobi represents good value. I have also had great luck with a Ryobi sliding compound miter saw. I just finished the trim for a bathroom reno and my wife was impressed (and she doesn't impress easy).

Personally, I like the feel and balance of the Ryobi's. My 12v is about 15 years old and the 18v ..maybe 10. The 12 is great for bench work, and Ive built decks and pergola's with the 18. Over 5 hours on a single charge.
They can take a beating too. After all that screwing, boring, mixing, falling, and dropping they are still tight.
Iv'e only had to replace the batteries once.
For repeated Heavy torque operations (boring/ augering) your'e still better off with a cord. Why cook the batteries if you don't have to?

None of the above. I have owned many of both Makita and DeWalt drills and the battery life in both cases is simply awful (I'm not talking about the life from a charge, I'm talking about the life of the battery until it will no longer take a charge), and the cost for replacement batteries is almost as much as a new drill.

Most of the drills come in sets with two batteries and you can almost always get a new drill with two batteries for less than the cost of two batteries alone.

And, in both cases, if you don't leave a battery in a charger, the one attached to the drill will almost always be almost fully drained whenever you need to use it - so you have to have two batteries.

Recently, I have had extremely good luck with a Bosch 12 v Lithium Ion Drill - Relatively small, compact, very strong and powerful enough for all household type use - holds a charge, batteries appear to have a very long life.

I also currently have an 18V DeWalt drill that I'll sell cheap to anyone who wants to buy new batteries. I'm going to buy the 18V Bosch for uses requiring extremely heavy duty - and it weighs about a pound less than the comparable Makita or DeWalt drills.
