Smile Vintage Audio Programmable Timers...

Anybody still using these guys in their vintage systems? Please do share!

Way back in March of 1984 (I was 9 years old then), my oldest brother was in the Army and based in Germany. While there, he purchased a Technics SH-4060 timer at the PX along with a matching Technics SU-V9 integrated amp, Technics ST-8055 tuner, a pair of JBL L112s, a Denon DP-62L, a Nakamichi Dragon and BX-1.

Anyway, all of the gear was sold except for the timer. For some reason, shortly after buying all of that gear, he purchased a Sansui AT-20 timer and gave the Technics timer to my other brother probably around 1984-85. That brother used the Technics timer all the way up to a couple years ago.

This past weekend, he came by for a visit and brought the timer along with a bunch of old vinyl that he bought when he was in the Marines and based over in Japan in 1985. That timer has been around the world twice!

So anyway, I unpacked the timer from its original box and styrofoam pads only to find the original manual underneath, AND with the original sales slip from Germany at the PX! All of it including the timer look like brand new. There's not a single mark of any kind on the timer.

Anyway, I didn't mean to write a life story, but thought it would be neat to share the history of this little unit. I'm glad to have it now. It currently resides in our bedroom system.

Here's a few quick pics of it...

Very cool, Charles!

I have two Pioneer DT-555 timers I use in two systems. I've had one of them since it was new back in the day.

Charles.......A Technics SH-4060 timer sold on eBay last month for $45.00. These old timers are ungrounded and only accept a two prong plug. Back in the day they were useful if you wished to tape something on a cassette or reel to reel machine that had a timer record capability.

Yes sir, I know. When my brother stopped using the old Sansui AT-20, I used it for a while on in my little system, using it as my alarm clock every morning for school.
