This is great news, I ordered my MT5 four months ago and hopefully it won't be far behind. I am assuming you are in the Chicago metro area or Wisconsin, as I am.

Hopefully, some of Clearaudio's backlog is finally getting cleared.

Thanks Charles. FWIW, my dealer offered me an "open box" 1502 that was a customer return from one of their stores about 60 miles west of my location. I might have bit, but the discount was no where near good enough to entice me.

I texted him just a bit later and asked when that customer placed his order in hopes that it might have shed some light on when I could expect my order to show up. Normally he is very quick to reply. The question was asked 4 days ago and to date he has not responded.

It's under my skin a bit I have to admit.

Well that is awesome news! Congrats and I hope you're super happy with it. What cartridge do you plan to use with it?

Hope your MT5 arrives soon! I was prepared for a few more months of waiting, and actually started to look at alternatives. I am happy I waited just long enough before doing anything. Yes, I'm originally from WI now living in NE IL, but still spend a fair amount of time in WI. Rest of the family still there.

Thank you! Going to use the included MC to start with. I'm assuming it's still the same one based off the CA Talisman. I am sure it will be a big upgrade over the CA Virtuoso Wood on my old table. It'll be my first foray into MC cartridges. I've been reading a lot of great reviews on the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze, so may try that at some point when the budget allows. Do you have any other suggestions for others I should consider?

Unless they have changed the cartridge, I thought the MT5 included the BluePoint cart like the MT2. I know the Blue Point is no longer made and perhaps they are using another cart. The Blue Point on my MT2 was actually not that bad.

Yes, the photos on the McIntosh website still show the MT5 with the Blue Point No. 2. I was actually referring to the MT10. From what I gather they are/were using a modified version of Clearaudio's Talisman, but I'm not sure what specifically is different on the Mac version. Or if it's the Talisman v1 or v2.

I'm probably not the best person to ask because I don't have a wide range of multiple cartrigdge use. Cartridge matching to your TA's effective mass is important as well.

That said I thought my Denon DL-304 was golden for me (and it's a terrific low output MC cartridge although now discontinued).

A couple of years ago I bit the bullet for an "on sale" Soundsmith Paua Mk. II MC/MI. I'll be standing pat on this one for a very long time to come. Checks every box and then some.

My bad, I thought you were buying the MT5. I am curious what Mc will use going forward since the Blue Point is discontinued.

IllinoisCheeshead I actually had one of the carts from the MT10 that I used on my MT2 for a while. It is certainly like the Talisman but without the Boron cantilever. I still have that cart and will keep it as a backup.

Not sure it’s a fair comparison being different turntables, but I noticed in your signature you’re running a Cadenza Black on your VPI. How would you say that compares in tone to the McIntosh version of the Talisman? I keep looking at the Cadenza Bronze. Seems it would be a good match for the MT10 tonearm if the 9g effective mass number I’ve seen online is accurate.

I must confess that I changed my system info before my new turntable has arrived which should this coming week. I will post my thoughts as soon as I have had a few hours time on the new cart but it is one that was recommended.
