So, if they're adding bits to the high-frequency content that was not originally there, it's can't be accurately designated "master quality".

I think that was part of Neil Young's objections to MQA:

"Tidal's master is a degradation of the original to make it fit in a box to collect royalties ... Amazon HD and Qobuz are good alternatives ..."

It’s not lossless, never was, never will be. Nonsense MQA hand waving aside. Stuart needs to show how the encoding works to eliminate some issues in the mastering process. That’s the only possible MQA benefit and it has been ignored or dismissed by pretty much everyone.
