Yes, I know it's a digital device. Still, it appears to have some promising capability.

There is also a Clock Generator that can be pair with it and multiple DA-3000s.

I have experience with its predecessor which is a fine sounding device, and relatively easy to use.

What have you recorded?

My main interest is Archiving Vinyl Records.

The alternative to this are other digital recorders and there a few DSD portable recorders..

Hi Bill,

Yes, I used the Tascam to digitize vinyl albums. I recorded them at 24/176 onto a server for later playback.

While the sound was quite good, I realized that:
1. The recordings will never be as good as the actual vinyl
2. I love the ritual and tactile experience of playing vinyl
3. Recording albums takes a long time -- unlike ripping a cd it has to be done in real time. For best results, you should mute your speakers because the analog equipment is microphonic.
4. Recording vinyl is tedious-- you have to define the track breaks yourself, as well as type in all the meta data manually
5. The pops and clicks are part of the analog experience, but are quite unwelcome in the digital versions

As far as the hardware goes, the Tascam was a fantastic device and I enjoyed it very much, but in the end I would lose interest in trying to rip a large vinyl collection.

4, Did you ever try this feature (from the Tascam site):
"Using automatic track incrementing function, new files can be created automatically while continuing to record when a condition (level, file size, digital input) set in advance occurs"

Wow, o0OBillO0o, that looks like a great recorder. This is really pushing my "want" button. I think is shows good forward thinking to include two different memory types as the recoding destination. Nothing worse than buying a device, then a few years later you can no longer buy memory for it. The addition of USB for storage is very nice, but I wonder why it is limited to 32G? SDHC 32G cards and USB 32G drives will probably evaporate about the same time. Luckily, it has CF as well.

Hi bill,

Yes, definitely use headphones to monitor for best results. I tried the auto track increment feature but I had a few false positives with it and stopped using it. It can be tweaked, so you may have better luck with it.
