Default MX119 Discrete Codes

I'm having trouble programming a macro (activity) to switch my MX-119 to external. My remote only has a mode button which does this switching and there are several delays between switching which makes it difficult to time. A discrete code would be ideal. This is also going to be a challenge since I'm using a Harmony One which doesnt allow custom input codes. So I'll have to borrow a universal and then use the "learning" feature on the Harmony.

I'm not aware of a discrete code for selecting the "External" input, but I do have a suggestion as to a potential workaround that I use with my MX135 and my MVP871. I use the balanced left and right analog outs from my MVP871 for CD's and two channel SACD's, the coaxial digital out for DVD's, and the 5.1 channel analog outs for multi-channel SACD's and DVD-Audio. I have the component video from the MVP871 connected to one of the assignable component video inputs on the MX135. I then have set up three of the physical inputs on the MX135 to all use the same component video input but to each use the appropriate physical input for what I am trying to do. For example, the input used for CD's has one of the balanced audio inputs on the MX135 assigned to it in the set-up menu. The one for DVD's has the digital input that the MVP871's coaxial digital output is connected to assigned to it, and the MX135 input for multi-channel has "External" set as its default surround mode in the set-up menu. You can also change the four character name shown in the display to make it easier to know which is which.

If this workaround isn't clear, please post exactly what activities you are trying to do and the types of connections you are using, and I'll try to give you specific instructions.

John
I use the same exact method for my MVP871, except the third method setup for external surround on my BluRay. That's a great solution if I only had an extra input. I may need to get rid of that darn VCR player or connect it straight to the TV to free up that input. Or let the MX119 switch the VCR video and run the audio straight to TV and use the same input for the BluRay(setting default surround to external). Thanks for turning on that light bulb

Are you using all of the inputs now? What about the "Tape" input? I think it can also be programmed like the other inputs.

I didn't have one spare input so I sacrificed the VCR audo input connecting it directly to the TV. No big deal since its only used to watch home movies. The MX119 upconverts video to component and vcr input serves two purposes now after defaulting it to external.

Sounds good. Glad you got it going.
