How about you? What are your goals and do you view it differently?[/QUOTE]

With only 2 years left at age 65, my current system is finished since I live in a Condo. It gives goosebumps to visitors, pisses off my neighbors, and plays all the media I have.
I'm working my way through the last 480 LP's I have(given 1000 away) so that I can listen to all of them. Then I have 100+ cassettes, then 70+ VHS tapes all to listen to before I die. I cannot listen to all the great music out there Just not enough time. There's absolutely nothing I can do if I die sooner. We are simply biological organisms, nothing more, nothing less.

The proposal of the reflection is very interesting, after having read all the contributions I rescue in particular the words of Charles and Serge about enjoyment and rationality in hifi audio.
After several years in this hobby, some of the things I learned is that rationality does not limit enjoyment, on the contrary, it has been useful to open the doors to greater enjoyment of my system and music. audiophilos can transmit the profile of a person who knows how to enjoy every detail and new toy, absolutely everything new that comes to the system is cause for excessive celebration, if to that is added the surprising ability of children to quickly get bored of things and his constant search for new stimuli can perhaps be interpreted then that a child has a greater capacity for enjoyment ... personally I think that is not the case.
The racial rescues the bored and nonconformist child and gives him a capacity for enjoyment that does not depend on illusory values such as the aesthetic, the new and the expensive of things but mainly the rational as well as in life helps us to see things as they are actually, no magic and no smoke.
At the beginning of my path in audio, my goals were the high-end systems, from the speakers to the most expensive cables that adorned the covers of the magazines of the field at that time, as I am not wealthy that approach produced for many years a dissatisfaction with this hobby, it always seemed to me that I was far from the goal, from the dream perfection, at some point I even opted for the resignation of thinking that this goal was reserved for a lucky few and that since I was not one of them I simply should stop making trouble for me, anyway ... luckily (?) that one day changed when I started to think about the reason for each component in my system, its nature and real function, the audiophilo smoke extractor turned on in my life and The result was in regards to the team in an exponential enjoyment and logically this event completely unlocked what did not allow me to enjoy the music.

Sorry for my English, it is not my native language.

As they say, money does not buy health, inner peace or one more day on this planet. Plenty of rich people could have testified to that but they are no longer with us...

Biological organisms with an expiration date is the fate of every living organism on this planet. Make the best out of the time allotted is always a sage advice...

But philosophy of life aside, as far as the audio hobby goes, after many years of participating in the hobby, I finally found inner peace with it. I simply enjoy, explore and study the music that turns me on. The gear has become very secondary in the equation but of course it has been selected to bring me listening pleasure and I knew exactly what I do and do not enjoy after all these years. Is there better stuff out there? Absolutely! Do I care anymore? Nope. There is no end to bigger and better...

I for once find the balance of not obsessing over upgrades and enjoying music many hours a day very refreshing. It does not mean that I will never upgrade or change anything, of course something will eventually change. The upgrade merry go round is just no longer the primary focus like it once was.

As always, this is IMHO and YMMV. Enjoy the hobby whichever way it turns you on.

Hard to comprehend all this, but keep giving your friends goosebumps and pissing-off the neighbors as long as possible!

I was listening to my Genisis BluRay last night (Selling England By The Pound) on my Woo WA6. I kept thinking..."has my hearing gone south? Where's the sparkle and air that I know this disc has?"

This morning I pulled out all the tubes I had "curated" to get the most out of this little head amp and went back to the stock tubes that Jack Woo felt good enough to include with the amp. Wow! everything that had been missing returned and I was really happy with my little headamp setup again.

It took a long time for the facts to finally break through the bias so that I actually heard what was going on. Somtimes "upgrades" turn out to really be "downgrades."

Funny how this hobby continues to teach us lessons, especially when we think we're so confident and self assured. And then discover we really aren't.

This is a FUN watch. Think in how many ways this applies to our hobby...
