Add me to the list of avid pipe organ listeners with a large collection of discs to delve into...

Full range playback with subwoofer drivers either in speaker or outboard are essential.

Proper bass integration either in speaker and/or outboard using subs with mains also has a big return on investment viz. Imaging and soundstaging of all music.

The second piece, Ciacona in D minor has amazing subsonic bass.

I think subs can be a great addition to just about any system, and I think a pair are easier to integrate than one.

I use a pair of special type of dipolar subwoofer called a Ridtahler dipole, or "Ripol" for short. These subs blend seamlessly with my dipolar main speakers, and they tend not to excite room modes. I highly recommend Ripol subs!
