That's been my (limited) experience as well. There also seems to be some limitations on what resolutions can be output by the system. I'm sure it sounds great as a front end to a Meridian system, but lacks some feature functionality when compared to todays music servers. I do love the interface however!

You are correct. The system has limitations. It does store and play 24/176 & 24/192 files but down samples them to 24/96. No DSD either. The unit can play 24/192 thru their speakers.

It has been some time but there will be some upgrades to the software. The original developers who sold SooLoos to Meridian are working on the update and are getting suggestions from the SooLoos community.

Jim

Yes, the most disappointing aspect of Sooloos.
Stuart continues to hold on to his chant that 96KHz upsample and his Apodizing filter are all one needs and anything else is very questionable (being kind here). Now, I'm not sure why the M speakers play 192. Maybe, the Sooloos range will be updated. Even so, 24/192 would be a huge disappointment if that's all Sooloos gets.
I've said this all along. It was a sad day when Sooloos was sold to M for the worlds audiophiles. A potentially class defining system was dumbed down to the Meridian ecosystem.
Imagine if dcS or the like bought Sooloos. That would have been a defining moment in server based music......
Now, that being said, using a 818v2 as a preamp is pretty good. Not nearly reference, but good enough to hold out for M to revamp the entire range, especially if you bought into Sooloos early......but for many Sooloos owners their patience is getting short.
Owning 3 complete Sooloos systems, I know mine is!

Nicely stated. Whether or not Bob Stuart is correct that 24/96 is sufficient, most owners of Meridian products are asking for higher resolutions. Whether or not Sooloos via a ID40/ID41 Meridian endpoint can play all Hi Rez tracks I haven't heard anything better .

As much as I want the paper spec of 24/192 other servers have been disappointing in management and soundquality. 95% of my collection probably is redbook sourced. And its what it can accomplish with redbook and hires 24/96 that it does real well.

I've never been impressed with DSD systems because I listen at the end result.
What does impress me are CD transports still from an audio quality standpoint like Vivaldi CD transport. Not it's UPnP or USB interface. The hype is there but pure audioquality is still at the best CD/SACD transports.

Also, get an audio endpoint at your system level for best result. The 818v2 is an excellent sooloos audio endpoint. Put a C15 for control and edit. Expand with QNAP NAS storage for truly "limitless" collections. The Sooloos userbase probably have the biggest collections online consistently and with pretty good management.

The recent forum contributions from the original Sooloos development team based in NYC is reassuring that we will see good things coming in the future.

Being a user of M speakers we know where you are coming from. You like your M system and that's great.
However there are those of us who have something very different and our expectations are also very different.
As I stated, the 818v2 endpoint is real good but nowhere near the best. If it weren't for the Sooloos user interface I think many of us not into the entire M system would have moved on.
Also, I really disagree with your CD Transport being the best in audio quality statement.
Server delivered music is its equal and for me comes from a quieter background with better pace.
And may I ask what recent forum contributions have Danny and his "team" made other than asking what improvements Sooloos users would like to see, primarily referring to the software? Maybe I missed something?

PS: Have you considered more than 1 GISO in your system?

I don't think there is much difference playing a CD via my 808v3 or playing one ripped to the MC200 via the 808's DAC's. I might actually prefer the pace of a CD played on the unit. I know it is not worth the effort of doing a bunch of comparisons because playing it via Sooloos is much more convenient.

Ivan.......After all the comments and information that has been provided here, do you still find yourself interested in the Sooloos Control 15?
