BDP1 second unit is up and running
I just unboxed and hooked up my new BDP1 to my two channel system, and moved the first BDP1 into the HT system. Now I can enjoy music in either room. For the HT system I had to buy a BNC to RCA cable since Bryston only provides two digital outputs; an AES balanced, and a BNC. That is my one complaint I have with this player. RCA SPDIF is by far the most common connection, but it is not supported. To add insult to injury, the Bryston BDA1 DAC has two RCA inputs! But, what the heck, everything is working fine now. I just need to find some other use for my MIT digital cable.
Also, the mpod app works fine with both players. That was the only aspect I had any concern about. |

That is my one complaint I have with this player. RCA SPDIF is by far the most common connection, Hi Bluefox - Digital signals operate at very high frequencies and maintaining the correct impedance through out the signal path is critical to prevent dropouts and signal reflections - especially as the sample rate increases. The Bryston DAC uses BNC because the cables made with BNC connections are a true 75 ohm impedance - both the cable and the connector - AESEBU should be 110 ohms. With COAX unless the cable is specifically designed with the proper impedance in mind, at both the cable and the connectors, it can be an issue. The Bryston DAC also employs impedance matching transformers at all its inputs. james Last edited by James Tanner - Bryston; 03-17-2013 at 08:56 AM. |

Bluefox, can you describe me your set-up? Are you using one external drive (a network attached storage) for both BDPs or both BDPs have their own external drives?

I believe the Rowland Aeris Dac also eschews RCA SPIDF in favor of the BNC for the exact same reason - impedance control. For those with DACs that only sport a Coax SPIDF input, are there any BNC out to Coax in cables you recommend that maintains the 75ohms impedance requirement? I'll PM you separately to ask about software on the unit as well. cheers allen |

Thank you for that bit of information. That helps explain the thought process of Bryston and a few other manufacturers. |

Yes Jeff Rowland is a big supporter of the Bryston BDP-1 and BDP-2 Digital Player (he owns both) becuase it has a BNC and an AESEBU output which lines up with his DAC very well. james |

Haha, that's what I heard unofficially, too, but didn't want to spread rumors. Great to hear it confirmed.

********* I made my own 75 ohm but here are some 75 ohm BNC to RCA 75 Ohm cables. Markertek - Search Results for bnc rca cable Steve |

Each BDP has its own drive.
