Default Product suggestion

First, I love my new BDA2. It definitely lives up to the review in the absolute sound. I also love my BDP1. This pair is an order of magnitude better than a CD player. However, CD players do have their advantages, such as being able to keep the electrical interconnect between the digital source and analog short, and having one power supply, which means one power cord.

While my marketing research is limited to me, I think a good product would be a BDA1 and BDP2 combined into one unit. This would save me thousands by not having to buy an interconnect and power cable as I do now with the two units. Plus it saves shelf space.

The drawback is I cannot upgrade the DAC in the future, although I suspect this can be designed in and be replaceable. Or use firmware for the DAC as does dcs and have upgrades.

Anyway, it's just an idea.

I think you mean a BDP and BDA in one unit....... And it is a novel idea.

I would prefer that my sp3 preamp did it all but all the technology components (dac, usb async., etc) changes at different times so unless the components are modular they can't be upgraded so you end up buying separate components. At this point it's extremely difficult for a manufacturer to have all of their products up to date and have the quality needed to keep their reputation in tack. Obviously the consumers end up paying for this.

Good suggestion, but sometimes it's good to buy certain gear a la carte.

I was thinking more about this and it occurred to me that there are plenty of people who buy CD and SACD players, and they do not scrap them as soon as a better player comes along. I think I could easily live with the equivalent of a BDP1 and a BDA2 in a single chassis for some time.

If it has a digital out then after a few years maybe adding a better external DAC might make sense. Since that would happen anyway whether I had a single unit or two units the upgrade point is moot for me.
