Denon DL-S1 - overachieving top of the line Denon LOMC.

Wow, special! From the famous & rare S1 family. This cart is a Denon icon. You have a survivor...How does it perform? I heard that they love a high gain tube phono stage...

Another Cadenza Black.
Thrilled with this cartridge. The unflappable tracking of the Jubilee, but with more nuance, liveliness and transparency.

Hi Steve

Performs extremely well, slightly laid back in delivery and maybe a little sparkle in the upper frequencies. Yes it does like a lot of gain, 70db gain on my Pass XP-25 works well. It also likes to be loaded with a high gain SUT. The TW tube phono stage at 63db not quite as synergistic. At 1k it is hard if not impossible to beat, at the $550 I paid bargain of the century if you can feed it correctly.

Lyra Atlas loves the TW , so horses for courses. Dyna XV-1s plays well with both.

tobes, welcome and that's a stunning picture of your Cadenza! Please share any details that you can on how you got that shot, i.e. camera, lens, etc. I assume that a tripod was used to get such clarity and sharpness down to the stylus tip. Awesome!

Thanks for the welcome. I've actually lurked here for a while but not posted.

Sorry to disappoint, but that shot was taken with a hand held point and shoot - Panasonic TZ7 - in auto/macro mode (but no flash).
There is a window directly behind the turntable which provides good background lighting and then I illuminated the cartridge from the front with a pedestal lamp. It's the light from behind which allows the resolution of the stylus.

There are a few more pics of my system here. Cheers.
